When Should I Take The ACT?

If you’re a college-bound teen, calculating out when to take the ACT or can be a tough task. At E3 Modern Learning, we understand the college admissions process is a long one.  One of the most important parts, the ACT  test.  Teens need to factor in their personal schedule, subjects in school, and prep availability.

By the end of this article, you will know exactly when it’s best for you to take the or ACT,  and why that test date is the best fit for you.

1.  Classes in School

Your scores will be higher once you’ve taken the classes that cover material on the test. Most noteworthy, the best time to take the ACT is after you’ve taken Geometry and Algebra II. The ACT questions feature algebra and geometry, and if you’ve never stumbled upon these subjects, your core foundation will be rocky, and you should wait to get more math skills.

That’s why teens have access to our online ACT prep course for two years. In my years of tutoring, I  know some students switch college choices, or extracurricular scholarship becomes available. Therefore, teens dive back in during the fall of their senior year to add an extra point or two once they’ve finalized their school list.Sometimes just one or two points translate to thousands of dollars in scholarships.

2. Personal Schedule

It’s best to take the ACT when your not juggling five other things in life. So many teens struggle with a very busy schedule, balancing extracurriculars, work, social life, school work, and test prep. Avoid taking the ACT prep when you have a full calendar.  For example, spring test is bad news for AP and IB students.  Rather, you’re an athlete and you are preparing for state.

So many teens forget to factor in their busiest season when considering the best time to take the ACT.

3.  Prep Time

When planning which ACT test date to take, backup 6-8 weeks from the actual date. For teens, we suggest he/she try to train for at least 40 hours for the ACT to reach their true ACT score.  If the teen can train more than 40+,  than he/she will be reward with a higher test score.

herSo often, we think only about the Saturday of the exam, but – ideally – that’s the finish line. The ACT  marathon started 2 months earlier when you dedicated focus study time and began the test prep journey.
